A natural gem in the heart of Luxembourg City

The Pétrusse valley is a green oasis accessible from the heart of the city via stone staircases, offering beautiful views of the landscape. Easily reachable from the Ville-Haute (Upper Town) and the train station district (Gare), the Pétrusse valley provides trails for all ages.

The shaded paths, lined with majestic trees, provide an ideal setting for peaceful walks or morning jogs. In every season, the valley captivates with its natural beauty:

  • Spring: Wildflowers brighten up the lawns.
  • Summer: The valley offers a cool and shaded retreat, perfect for relaxing or picnicking on sunny days. The Pétrusse stream adds a refreshing touch.
  • Autumn: The golden foliage transforms the landscape into a breathtaking scene.
  • Winter: The valley becomes a tranquil haven where visitors can admire clear panoramic views.
     

Things to do in the Pétrusse valley

This valley offers a variety of activities for all ages and interests:

  • Walks and hikes : Wander along the trails winding through the valley and enjoy breathtaking views of the old city and its fortifications.
  • Jogging and cycling: Dedicated paths allow for jogging or cycling in a serene environment.
  • Skatepark: A large, modern space dedicated to skating enthusiasts, perfect for skaters and riders of all levels. To top it off, the location offers a remarkable view of the historic fortress.
  • Picnics and relaxation : Settle on one of the lush green lawns for a pleasant and convivial moment with family or friends.
  • Outdoor fitness areas: Two free-to-use installations (from age 12) allow you to work out in nature:
    • One fitness area in the Pétrusse valley near Rue d'Anvers.
    • Another fitness area located at the entrance to the valley, near the Grund district.
  • Mini-golf: A mini-golf area is now available for fun for both children and adults. Food service will be available starting in Spring 2025.
  • Children's play areas: The youngest can enjoy several play areas scattered throughout the Pétrusse valley, offering fun spaces suitable for all ages in the heart of nature.

A rich history and impressive heritage

The Pétrusse valley is not just a natural space; it is also a place steeped in history. The fortifications of the old city, visible from the trails, highlight the valley’s strategic importance over the centuries. Key points of interest include:

  • Historic bridges: The Adolphe Bridge and the Viaduct, two architectural icons, majestically overlook the valley.
  • Remnants of the city walls: Explore the ancient defensive structures listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, including the Pétrusse Casemates and the bastions that were part of the city's historic defense system.
     

In addition to its natural and historical attractions, the Pétrusse Valley is set to host an exceptional event in 2025.


New in 2025: LUGA comes to the Pétrusse Valley

From May 7 to October 18, 2025, the Pétrusse Valley will host LUGA – Luxembourg Urban Garden, a temporary open-air exhibition dedicated to urban gardens, landscape installations, and living spaces in Luxembourg.

This project will temporarily transform the valley into an experimental space where nature, art, and architecture come together. Along the way, visitors will discover plant installations, themed gardens, and artistic creations highlighting biodiversity and sustainable development.
