A charming and authentic place to discover.

Just next door, you will find another hidden terrace close to Bastion Beck, the Gëlle Fra and the Holy Ghost Plateau, where the former convent of Poor Clares once stood. It is a chill spot for salads, burgers and a good cold beer.

A few steps further, beyond the Holy Ghost Plateau, you will discover the beautiful Rue du Saint-Esprit: a lively street full of character yet tucked away from the tourist bustle. Quieter, and with a distinctly local feel.

Colourful lanterns hanging from the trees and above the street create a wonderfully magical atmosphere in the evening.

As the city's first vegetarian restaurant, with Asian-inspired cuisine, Mesa Verde is as appealing for its warm interior – with murals, rich colours and oriental touches – as it is for its beautiful terrace overlooking the Grund district and the Alzette valley.

Right next door, the Gudde Wëllen is a lively venue and an indispensable fixture on Luxembourg's cultural scene. Concerts, comedy shows, readings and events follow one another in an atmosphere that is always full of life. 

de Gudde Weather

Head down a few steps towards the Corniche – often described as “Europe's most beautiful balcony” – and discover a terrace unlike any other in the city: de Gudde Weather. With what is probably one of the finest views in Luxembourg, it is the perfect place for cocktails, Luxembourgish beers and ciders – or simply an ice cream during sunset.

Mikrokosmos

Also established by the Gudde Wëllen team, Mikrokosmos was originally intended as a temporary installation during LUGA (Luxembourg's exhibition dedicated to urban gardens). Due to its huge success and exceptional setting, the terrace ultimately found a lasting home in the beautiful municipal park. Surrounded by greenery, it serves flammekueche, burgers, toasted sandwiches and sharing platters. Whether you come for a relaxed lunch, a leisurely afternoon break or sunset drinks with friends, you will find your match as the atmosphere evolves throughout the day. Imagine music, nature and deckchairs in the sun – all just a few steps from Villa Vauban and the large pirate ship playground.

Looking for something a little more refined and elegant? The Hêtre (French for beech) adjoining the Lëtzebuerg City Museum takes its name from the large beech tree that once stood on the neighbouring lawn.

Although the tree had to be removed because of its condition, several sculptures crafted by different artists keep its memory alive and have become part of the City of Luxembourg's art collection. Its spirit can still be felt in this peaceful little garden in the old town.

The terrace overlooks the Corniche and offers wonderful views across the Alzette Valley, its medieval fortifications and the Kirchberg and Rham Plateau.

On the menu: Luxembourgish meat, dishes to share and delicious desserts, with a weekly changing menu.

A little further from the city centre, in the heart of the European quarter and just a short walk from Mudam and the Philharmonie Luxembourg, Kyosk sits in the middle of Kirchberg's central park, next to a large playground.

Nearby is the Coque, Luxembourg's iconic sports centre, with its Olympic-sized swimming pool, climbing facilities and many other sporting amenities.

Open only when the weather allows, Kyosk offers a beautiful terrace surrounded by nature, complete with deckchairs, a pétanque court and an easy-going summer atmosphere.

Expect refreshing drinks, Asian street food and the famous Lëtzebuerger Grillwurscht, a favourite among Luxembourgers.
