Secrets of the Surface: The Mathematical Vision of Maryam Mirzakhani
Venue : Cercle Cité, Cité Auditorium (3, rue Genistre)
In resonance with the exhibition SHAPES – Beyond Geometry., this documentary traces the journey of Maryam Mirzakhani, the first woman in the world to be awarded the Fields Medal, one of the most prestigious international distinctions in mathematics.
From her childhood in Iran to her pioneering research at Stanford University, the film explores her creative vision of mathematics and her groundbreaking work on the geometry of curved surfaces.
Through the testimonies of her family, colleagues, and leading mathematicians, the documentary highlights an intuitive and imaginative approach to research, where forms become a space for exploration and discovery. By revealing her deeply visual understanding of mathematics, it emphasizes the creative dimension of this discipline and resonates with the exhibition’s exploration of forms as a shared language between science, imagination, and art.
