Banannefabrik: Heritage in Motion
Formerly a fruit warehouse, later transformed into an industrial site and eventually becoming an emblematic venue for contemporary creation, Banannefabrik is a remarkable example of the transformation of industrial heritage into a vibrant and active cultural space. As part of the European Heritage Days, under the 2026 theme “Heritage at Risk: Revive, Resist, Reinvent”, and to celebrate its 15th anniversary as a creative venue (2011–2026), the project invites visitors to immerse themselves in this ever-evolving site through a participatory programme open to everyone.
This edition highlights the continuity and evolution of a cultural project that has become emblematic, while addressing current issues related to urban transformation, the regeneration of former industrial sites and the adaptation of spaces to contemporary uses. It also contributes to raising public awareness of the processes of heritage transmission, reinvention and appreciation.
The programme includes:
- theatricalised guided tours retracing the history of the site and its transformation;
- opportunities to meet the members of Banannefabrik and discover their activities, as well as encounters with artists and an introduction to different artistic practices (dance, theatre);
- participatory artistic workshops centred around movement and theatrical improvisation, open to all audiences and encouraging intergenerational exchange;
- public reading and discussion sessions offering a privileged insight into the creative process;
- a continuous video-dance installation and screenings showcasing the diversity of the artists supported by the venue.
On Friday 16 October at 5:00 pm, a welcome reception will be offered to the public and guests, marking the launch of the programme and providing a first convivial opportunity for meeting and exchange.
A DJ afterwork event will complement the Friday programme, creating a convivial atmosphere conducive to exchanges between the public, artists in residence and the people involved in the venue. It will also offer an opportunity to discover the organisation’s missions, artistic programme, events and the different activities and dynamics developed within the venue.
On Saturday, a DJ will also take over following the open JAM, bringing together contemporary and urban dance. Designed as a space of freedom where no prior experience is required, the JAM will extend the experience in a festive and inclusive atmosphere.
.The full programme can be discovered through the calendars of the Banannefabrik members: TROIS C-L | Maison pour la danse, MASKéNADA, Théâtre du Centaure and THEATERFEDERATIOUN. For some activities, registration is recommended or required.
