Filmed by their uncle Massoud Bakhshi, three sisters – Mahya, Zahra, and later Makela – grow up in Tehran, from childhood games to adult life, in a society where social and religious norms dictate women’s lives. From carefree youth to political activism, All My Sisters retraces 18 years of personal and collective growth, revealing desires for freedom and resistance shared by young Iranian women. Spanning the long and precious times of childhood and adolescence, All My Sisters gives the documentary form a remarkable ethical dimension, freely expressing the perspectives of those being filmed.
