Passeport

Issa, a young Eritrean who was left for dead in the Calais ‘Jungle’, has lost his memory. His passport is the only tangible evidence he has of his past, and so he embarks on a long and arduous quest to obtain a residence permit, surrounded by fellow sufferers.Author’s note:

‘I couldn’t write without humour. In Une histoire d’amour (A Love Story), for example, there is a lot of humour despite the fact that it deals with death and cancer. I always need comedy to defuse situations; otherwise, I feel like I’m being moralistic and dogmatic. I need to not take myself too seriously to convey my message and encourage people to ask questions. My intention is always to ensure the audience is moved by emotion.’
