About the book :
Claire Lynch’s debut novel A Family Matter was published in 2025 and has been translated into several languages. A Family Matter was a Read With Jenna bookclub pick in the USA, shortlisted for the Nero Prize for debut fiction, and long listed for the Aspen Literary prize.
1982 - Dawn is a young wife and mother hemmed in by village life. Then Hazel appears like a torch in the dark. Their attraction is instant and suddenly Dawn’s world is more joyful and more complicated than she ever expected.
2022 - Maggie has always lived with an absence where her mother should be. Her father never speaks of her and it feels impossible to ask. Then a letter is found with news from the past, and Maggie must face a truth far bigger than just her family’s secret.
About the author :
Claire holds a doctorate from the University of Oxford and is an honorary Professor of English and Creative Writing at the University of London. Her memoir, Small: On Motherhoods was published by Brazen in 2019. She lives in Windsor with her wife and three daughters.

The event is organised in collaboration with Bookclub Between the Lines, who will also moderate the conversation with the author.
A brief Q&A will follow the reading and will end with a book signing.
