Description
Three years after Joan of Arc was burned at the stake in Rouen, a woman who bears a striking resemblance to her appears near Metz. A few weeks later, Joan of Arc's brothers visit the woman and confirm that she is their sister. It seems that the Inquisition executed the wrong Joan of Arc. Jeanne marries the knight d'Ambroisier in Arlon and interferes in the electoral college elections in the German Empire. Soon, several inquisitors take an interest in her and want to question her. Jeanne d'Ambroisier finds refuge with the Duchess of Luxembourg and spends a lot of time on the Bockfelsen until finally the French King Charles IV wants to meet her.
The figure of Jeanne d'Ambroisier is almost as legendary as the real Joan of Arc. Her life is adventurous and full of anecdotes.
Rafael Kohn uses this historical figure to examine contemporary social structures. Social power structures, family structures and gender structures are questioned on the basis of the false Joan of Arc.
Far from the myth of Saint Joan of Arc, Claude d'Ambroisier is not a virgin but the mother of two children and wife of the knight Ambroisier. Despite this, she appears in men's clothing and interferes in the political events of her time and can be understood as a pioneer of the feminist movement. She could ride and fence and left her children in her husband's care while she frequented the high nobility, interfered in political affairs and travelled through Germany and France.
