After two meditations in cantata form, we discover the Missa brevis –. or short mass – a musical setting of the Christian liturgy remarkable not only for its musical quality, but also because it reconciles the Catholic and Protestant faiths at a time still haunted by the Wars of Religion which had shaken Europe in the previous century. .
