My Dear Théo & debate on Ukraine
A screening of the documentary My Dear Théo by Ukrainian director Alisa Kovalenko, who will personally introduce the film and take part in a Q&A session with the audience.
The evening will continue with a debate on the situation in Ukraine, moderated by Luxembourgish journalist Philippe Shockweiler.
In My Dear Théo, director Alisa Kovalenko—who is both a mother and a frontline volunteer soldier—records intimate video diaries and writes poetic letters to her five-year-old son, Théo, from the war front. Filmed during her service in the Ukrainian Volunteer Army following Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022, the documentary documents the devastating realities of war, the chaos of conflict, and the quiet strength found in camaraderie and solidarity among soldiers. Interwoven with these raw war images are Kovalenko’s reflections on motherhood, duty, and the profound bond that endures even in the darkest times.
