Masterclass by Oscars-nominated director Alexander Nanau
We are delighted and honoured to be able to host a Masterclass by the President of the International Jury, the Oscar-nominated German-Romanian director Alexander Nanau.
During his talk (in English) he will focus on the topic Exploring individuality in a societal context through filmmaking..
A brief exploration of my process in finding and observationally capturing the stories of ordinary people as they struggle to find their own truth and individuality within society, and bringing those stories to canvas for a wider audience.
.How does one find and choose the protagonists to embed with for over a year and trust that there will be a story to tell? How can life, which evolves uninterrupted in front of the camera, be captured in a cinematic way that reveals characters who, on canvas, become larger than life? How does what one learns from the lives and human drive of the protagonists inform the storytelling and final film shaped from the material?
The masterclass will be punctuated by film excerpts and the entrance is free.
Later the same day Mr. Nanau will participate in a special Tribute screening of his latest documentary film Collective.
