Expanding the Visible
Hypnagogic Experience.
We are all familiar with the two fundamental states of consciousness that consist in sleep and wakefulness. But what do we know about what happens in between them? A strange and fascinating state, characterized by dream-like visions and unusual sensory experiences, situated at the boundary between full consciousness and rest. Psychologists call it hypnagogia, but even before the term existed, for centuries artists found some of their most inspiring ideas in such a state.
In recent years, new technologies have made it possible to recreate this unique state of consciousness using lamps that emit neurostimulating light. The altered state of consciousness induced by this type of light leads to a state of deep relaxation and triggers an intense, kaleidoscopic experience of colors, psychedelic effects, and sacred geometric shapes and patterns.
As part of the hypnagogic sessions presented at Casino Luxembourg, composer and musician Hugo Figuera has developed a musical approach conceived as an experiental field, in dialogue with the neurostimulating light installations, where sound becomes a vehicle for sensory exploration

Alexandre Quaranta is a French philosopher, writer, and dream yoga teacher. He specializes in the interdisciplinary study of the vast spectrum of non-ordinary states of consciousness. He is particularly interested in ways of simplifying access to musical ecstasy and non-dual explorations through photon neuromodulation, as well as in developing an original, simplified approach to learning and exploring lucid dreaming.
He is the author of the treatise S’étonner d’être: l’éveil à la joie d’être conscience, published by Originel Accarias.
Following her interest in the intersection of art and inner exploration, Laura Kozlik examines the impact of images on our internal dynamics. In this framework, she explores the links between altered states of consciousness and unconscious representations.
In her work, she places crucial emphasis on the imagination and sensory experience as catalysts for personal transformation. This integrative approach finds expression in individual energy-based coaching sessions.
Hugo Figuera is a composer and musician whose practice explores states of perception through sound.
Trained in piano from a young age, he developed a sensory approach to musical composition before immersing himself in electronic production, particularly in the field of drum & bass, where he explores the physical and immersive dimensions of sound, rhythm, and repetition.
His work is now extending into hybrid forms, at the intersection of composition, sound design, and perceptual experimentation. Through textures, slow oscillations, beats, and shifting soundscapes, he seeks to create listening environments conducive to attention, introspection, and altered states of consciousness.
