Discover the natural spaces of Luxembourg City
With more than a quarter of its surface area occupied by green spaces, Luxembourg City is ideal for walks. Green and full of surprises, the capital invites you to discover the most beautiful places strolling through its parks, valleys and along its rivers.
Pétrusse Park
The Pétrusse Park is the green lung of Luxembourg City and is nestled in the heart of the city, separating the railway station district from the upper town. Discover this verdant valley for more than a kilometer along the stream that gave its name to the valley: the Pétrusse. Here you can admire amazing rock formations as well as the fortifications built by Vauban, a famous 17th-century French engineer and military architect. Vauban transformed Luxembourg into one of the most powerful fortresses in Europe, earning it the nickname "Gibraltar of the North".
Edouard André Municipal Park
Created by landscape engineer Edouard André, the Municipal Park is a green oasis in the city centre. Surrounded by centuries-old trees and richly decorated with flowers, this English park is ideal for strolling and relaxing. Keep your eyes open, you might come across squirrels here! Children will also be delighted: there is a pirate ship in the park!
Grund district
Along the Alzette river, the Grund district offers charming tree-lined areas. Near Neumünster Abbey you can discover amazing gardens, including the Klouschtergaart. Vegetables, medicinal plants and even vines grow here. On your walk you will also see the monumental Bock promontory with its Casemates, which is part of the fortifications classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Three Acorns Park (Dräi Eechelen)
Just a few steps away from the Kirchberg business district, behind the MUDAM and the Philharmonie, is the Park of the Three Acorns. This extensive green space offers a panoramic view of the upper town of Luxembourg. You will be enchanted! There are three forts in the park: Fort Niedergrünewald, Fort Obergrünewald and Fort Thüngen, which houses the Dräi Eechelen Museum. The perfect spot for history buffs!
Getting around
A good starting point for your adventures is Place Guillaume II, one of the main squares and home to the town hall and the Luxembourg City Tourist Office. Get your free City Map and feel free to ask all your questions.
Top tip: Use public transport if you are tired of walking. In March 2020, Luxembourg became the first country worldwide to introduce free public transport!
