Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui & le Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève

FR Après Idomeneo, re di Creta en début de saison, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui et les danseurs et danseuses du Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève reviennent avec une nouvelle création en danse. Dans Ihsane – qui désigne un idéal de bonté et de bienveillance en arabe – Cherkaoui explore sa relation avec son père, qui a quitté le Maroc pour la Flandre, tout en gardant un amour inconditionnel pour son pays d’origine. Avec Ihsane, il souhaite aussi rendre un hommage au jeune homme d’origine marocaine éponyme, tué à Liège en 2012, à la sortie d’un club. Cherkaoui danse les questions qui l’obsèdent, comme les identités multiples et l’origine, tentant de dépasser le conflit et l’oubli.

EN Following Vlaemsch (chez moi), a tribute to his mother and Flemish heritage, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui completes his diptych with Ihsane, a deeply personal work honouring his late father and Moroccan roots. This evocative creation unites dancers from the Ballet du Grand Théâtre de Genève, which Cherkaoui directs, and his company Eastman to explore themes of exile, memory, and identity. Infused with Moroccan traditions, Ihsane is a visually striking and emotionally charged journey. Geometric patterns merge with fluid movements inspired by Arabic calligraphy, as dancers create evolving scenes that question how we embody multiple cultural identities. Ihsane – meaning benevolence in Arabic – transforms a personal quest into a broader reflection on belonging. Through music, movement, and striking visual design, Cherkaoui examines what remains when home becomes distant and how we find peace within ourselves despite loss.

DE Nach Idomeneo kehren Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui und die TänzerInnen des Grand Théâtre de Genève und der Kompanie Eastman ins Grand Théâtre zurück. Ihsane ist eine Fortsetzung von Cherkaouis Vlaemsch (chez moi) – 22 • 23 ebenfalls in Luxemburg zu sehen. Während der Choreograf dort seine Mutter und seine flämischen Wurzeln in den Mittelpunkt rückte, erforscht er nun die Beziehung zu seinem Vater, der aus Marokko stammte. Der arabische Titel steht für ein Ideal von Güte, Freundlichkeit und Wohlwollen und bezieht sich im Islam auf eine Form der Gemeinschaft mit dem Universum. Ihsane war jedoch auch der Name eines 2012 in Lüttich aus rassistischen und homophoben Gründen ermordeten jungen Mannes. Das Stück zollt dem Opfer Tribut und macht sich auf die Suche nach innerem Frieden.
