“Les Rendez-vous de l'UNESCO” event series to present the UNESCO programmes that
encourage us to make peace with nature.Robert L. Philippart, phd, UNESCO Site Manager hon, presents the
Recommendation on the Historic Urban Landscape adopted by UNESCO in 2011. In
2024, ‘Luxembourg, old quarters and fortifications’ was nominated ‘champion and
leader of historic cities’ by UNESCO for the management of the historic urban
landscape. UNESCO considers urban heritage, with its tangible and intangible
components, to be an essential social, cultural and economic asset, enabling
the sustainable development of cities and promoting social cohesion. It is a
