Built to use

From 29 September to 3 October, architect and skater Tun Kintzele will host a hands-on workshop at the old slaughterhouse in Hollerich. Together, you’ll pour, shape and finish DIY concrete skate modules, following every step from the first pour to the final touch. By the end of the week, a skatespot will have taken shape, built in the raw spirit of underground skate culture.

On 4 October, the spot opens with a full day of action. Expect a skate jam, skate-for-tricks sessions and DJ sets, with drinks on site. Besides the skateboarding, you can join creative workshops in the form of art, upcycling concpets and photography. Take part in a round-table talk with key figures of the local scene to close the day.

Organized by the City of Luxembourg together with Skateboard Club Luxembourg, the event celebrates what skate culture is all about: creativity, DIY energy and the freedom to ride. Come build, skate, create and connect. Whether you’re a skater, an artist or just curious, there’s something waiting for you.

Full programme:

Walk-in workshop: Skateboarding DIY Basics / 14h00 - 16h00

Learn how to ride a DIY skatepark: start by checking the spot, feel the surfaces, and begin on smaller obstacles. Keep your weight centered, stay loose, and adapt to the flow. DIY parks are about creativity — ride safe, respect the space, and enjoy exploring unique handmade features.

Walk-in workshop: Art on Boards / 14h00 - 17h00

A creative session dedicated to customizing skate decks. With blank boards available, participants can freely explore design and illustration under the guidance of artist Sacha di Giambattista. The finished decks will be displayed at the Schluechthaus as part of a temporary exhibition.

Walk-in workshop: Upcycling Skateboards / 14h00 - 17h00

A participatory and eco-conscious workshop focused on repurposing old skateboards. Led by Atelier 3, this session encourages creativity, sustainability, and sharing.

Workshop: Photography / 15h00 - 17h00

Learn how to capture the energy and dynamism of skateboarding but not only in the movements of the skaters, also in the architecture that surrounds them. This workshop invites you to view urban spaces as a stage: concrete, lines, shadows and structures become active components of the image composition. Led by photographer Tom Jungbluth, the course combines technical tips with practical exercises and trains the eye for the aesthetics of urban life. Together, you explore how the architectural elements and the unique character of the Schluechthaus can be photographed and reinterpreted.
