The farm, the museum, the fair : how artists inhabit their contexts and shape them

Where does an artwork begin? In the studio, in the field, in a museum gallery, on a fair booth? On the occasion of Luxembourg Art Week, the Soil Café conceived by artist Marie Hazard hosts a conversation on the role of the artist across three contexts: the farm, the museum and the fair. Each of these places creates its own conditions for making art. On the farm, the artist works with living systems: the seasons, materials grown in the fields, the slow time of the land. At 91.530 Le Marais., a regenerative farm and art centre, hemp becomes thread, brick or plaster, and artworks take shape alongside farmers, craftspeople and researchers. In the museum, the institution offers the artist a frame, a history and an audience; it selects, stages dialogues and inscribes the work in time. At the fair, time accelerates: the work circulates, meets its collectors and finds its value. With the Soil Café, Marie Hazard reverses the equation: the artist no longer simply inhabits a booth but creates the very place of encounter, a space where soil, the raw material of all culture, becomes the starting point of the discussion. Victoire de Pourtalès, co-founder of 91.530 Le Marais, Cordélia de Brosses, curator at the Fondation Louis Vuitton, and Marie Hazard will share their experiences in a conversation moderated by Benjamin Eymère, co founder of 91.530 and Soilonic. Together they will explore a double movement: the context the artist inhabits, and the context the artist creates. How do artists live with these places, and how do they shape them in return? Who shapes whom? How can a farm, an institution or a fair become partners in creation rather than mere frames? And what becomes of an artwork when it takes root, quite literally, in a territory?

Marie Hazard (b. 1994, France) is a textile artist who bridges traditional craftsmanship and industrial textile techniques. A graduate in textile design from Central Saint Martins, London, she experiments with weaving by combining hand techniques and digital printing, creating a singular visual language. Her practice also incorporates photography, painting, and literature. Her work has been shown internationally in solo and group exhibitions, notably at the Dallas Contemporary Museum (2025), the Centre Tignous d'Art Contemporain, Montreuil (2025), the Alina Szapocznikow Foundation, Warsaw, the Mobilier National & Institut Français d'Amérique Latine, Mexico City (2024), Villa Belleville, Paris (2023), Galeria Mascota, Mexico City (2022), and the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum (2019). Winner of the Clothworkers' Material Fund Prize (2017), she was also awarded the prestigious THREAD residency at the Josef & Anni Albers Foundation in Senegal (2024) and selected for their residency in Bethany (2027). In 2022, she co-founded Potyra, an arts project in Serra Grande, Brazil, supporting young artists, and published her first monograph with Zolo Press. For 2026, she is developing a research project and exhibition focused on hemp weaving with 91530 Le Marais, as well as a collaboration blending art and fashion with designer Constança Entrudo at CAM – Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon. She will also exhibit at the Centre de l'Art Concret and the Museo Nacional de Antropología, Mexico City.

Cordélia de Brosses began her art history training in the United States at Yale University, where she organized exhibitions ranging from Old Master art (16th-century French) at the Yale University Art Gallery to contemporary works—including the first presentation of Marc Riboud’s photo-reportage from Cuba and Alaska. Upon returning to France, she earned master’s degrees in Cultural Management from HEC Paris and in Art History from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne. An alumna of the École Normale Supérieure (Ulm), she advocates for an interdisciplinary approach bridging the visual arts, the humanities, and the sciences. For over four years, she has worked within the artistic department of the Fondation Louis Vuitton: initially as a research associate for the Monet-Mitchell exhibition, then for the Mark Rothko retrospective, and currently as project manager for the Gustave Fayet: Collector-Creator exhibition. Opening in autumn 2026, this exhibition will foster a dialogue between various art forms—drawing, oil painting, ceramics, textiles, carpets, and stained glass. Alongside her work at the Foundation, she conducted an interview with Christopher Rothko for the magazine L’Arche and another with photographer Paolo Roversi at the Villa Medici in 2023. More recently, she curated an exhibition of works by artist M’Barek Bouhchichi at the Seybah Dagoma gallery and was invited to speak on the subject of art forgery by ICOM (2025) and the APAG—American Photography Archives Group (2026).
