Open call for image donations: Common Scenery
A participatory work in the public space
The Common Scenery project explores the cultural diversity of Luxembourg's population through an installation of floors reconstituted and assembled in the public space by Spanish artist Lara Ruiz (*1986, Luxembourg) using images. After an initial phase of introduction and workshops during the European Heritage Days in
Heritage Days in September 2024, the project is now entering its production phase. For this stage, Lara Ruiz is calling on communities from different cultural backgrounds in Luxembourg to collect photos featuring urban soil from their countries of origin.
These bits of memories, these familiar fragments - paving stones and other urban tiles, however disparate - will be reproduced in concrete during participatory creative workshops les by the artist (announcement coming soon), then assembled in a designated public space into a single composition representing a common ground, a terra communis
in the city of Luxembourg.
Interested parties will be able to access the database and add their own photos as well as details of the location. Common Scenery will be unveiled in September 2025. The participatory workshops will be held in May 2025. Lara Ruiz has a degree in fine arts from the University of Salamanca and a master's degree in artistic production from the Polytechnic University of Valencia, specialising in art and technology.
