REQUIEM, John Rutter ; MASS, Steve Dobrogosz
This concert brings together 2 very different cultures, yet which at times are also close, American and English.
Two pieces are on the programme: John Rutter's Requiem and Steve Dobrogosz's Mass.
John Rutter is an English composer who, in his Requiem, combines contemporary compositional techniques with sounds reminiscent of English pop music. The atmosphere see-saws between dark and shinmering, or filled with soft and charming melodies.
Steve Dobrogosz's Mass follows a very classical form. It is a jazz mass in the pure American tradition, accompanied by a solo pianist and a string ensemble.
This concert will be a voyage of discovery in contemporary sound around the reassuring pillars of a classical structure.
