Destination Moon! With Méliès, Fleischer & Aardman (Spacewalks)
Destination Moon! With Méliès, Fleischer & Aardman
The SPACEWALKS retrospective extends its journey into a selection of essential short films from across cinema history. From early cinematic wonders to animated and burlesque masterpieces, these works capture in condensed form what cinema has always offered at its core: imagination, invention, and wonder. Open to all audiences, this program traces another path through the cosmos – playful, inventive, and already deeply fascinated by the idea of elsewhere.
Programme :
Trip to the Moon Le Voyage dans la lune France 1902 | Georges Méliès | 16' | restored silent film with recorded music
Widely regarded as the first major science fiction film in the history of cinema, Méliès’ masterpiece follows a group of astronomers who travel to the Moon in a cannon-launched capsule and encounter strange lunar beings. A foundational vision of cinematic space travel.
Dancing on the Moon USA 1935 | Dave Fleischer | 8' | sans paroles – no spoken dialogue
An animated musical fantasy where the Moon becomes a surreal playground of rhythm, movement, and cosmic imagination.
A Grand Day Out UK 1989 | Nick Park | 24' | voEN
