DJ Ahmet Macédoine du Nord-Tchéquie-Croatie-Serbie 2025 | Georgi M. Unkovski | vostEN | 97' | digital | Cast: Arif Jakup, Agush Agushev, Dora Akan Zlatanova, Aksel Mehmet
►Sundance 2025 (Audience Award, World Cinema Dramatic Special Jury Award, Special Jury Prize)
A remote village in North Macedonia: Ahmet is fifteen and loves beats. Alya loves hip-hop and is being groomed for an arranged marriage. A heartfelt and visually vibrant debut that won over audiences at this year’s Sundance Film Festival
“Macedonian director Georgi M Unkovski's first film overcomes tired coming-of-age tropes with authentic and vibrant characters and settings” (Cineuropa)
“Unkovski derives universally understandable comedy from culturally specific situations. The plight of a technology-challenged imam whom Ahmet kindly helps on multiple occasions is a recurrent side-splitting gag. The sound of Microsoft Windows starting up has never been so funny.” (Variety)
“The comedy of old and new is in all the right places, providing perfect relief in what appears to be a story as traditional as Shakespeare, only with speakers, DJs, and the occasional strobe headlamp.” (Film Threat)
