Steven Cruz (LU/PT)
Once the primary gateway to Luxembourg, the capital’s central station is seeing a piece of its history come back to life. Under the thoughtful hands of Steven Cruz, one of the pillars of the old footbridge is now adorned with an azulejo fresco.
Drawing inspiration from the Manueline style and the rich tradition of Portuguese azulejos, the fresco creates a silent conversation between memory, migration, and hope. It evokes journeys undertaken, blending marine influences, symbols of freedom, and fragments of forgotten stories. Each motif offers a glimpse into a shifting past, an impression of the quiet strength of those who left everything behind to start anew. Poised between dream and reality, the artwork yields to the viewer’s imagination.
Steven Cruz (b. 1996) is a Luxembourgish visual artist of Portuguese origin. Trained in Lisbon, Athens, and Brussels, he has developed a practice that combines art and design. A winner of both the MAD Brussels Graduation Prize and RTL's Generation Art competition, Cruz has established himself on the Luxembourgish art scene. Demonstrating his professional commitment to the art world, Steven is a co-founder of La Concierge, a non-profit organization dedicated to the recognition of emerging artists.
