Pipes have their ways
Pipes have their ways is an air-based sound installation that uses everyday industrial materials — garden hoses, PVC pipes, and extractor hoods. It invites the audience to create sounds collectively, in an experience that is at once sensory, playful and social.
The project revisits the heritage of opera and traditional organ techniques through a contemporary and open-ended approach, where mechanics become a space for experimentation and encounter.

"text": "Ideally located in the heart of the capital, the Casino Luxembourg - Forum d'art contemporain holds contemporary art exhibitions with an international programme of mainly younger-generation artists.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nThe art centre houses public spaces with a variety of uses and vocations, combining contemporary art with a warm and friendly meeting place: the ground floor, next to a library specialising in contemporary art, has a \"BlackBox\" projection room devoted to artists' videos; an area dedicated to learning activities, and a café-restaurant, the ca(fé)sino. The first floor is exclusively used for temporary exhibitions, so artists' monographs and themed exhibitions are shown here. These are completed by a varied programme of guided tours, conferences and encounters with contemporary music, as well as artists in residence.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nFar from any museological concerns, the Casino functions like an artistic and experimental think tank heading for the latest trends in the art scene.",

"text": "<p><strong>BÉBÉ TREK</strong> is a device designed exclusively from natural materials (such as bamboo, volcanic stones, etc.) and crafted to be easily handled by children. Designer Flora Koel draws inspiration from discovery, particularly when hiking.</p>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Her work encourages children to embrace the role of explorers, trusting their instincts as they engage with the diverse materials provided. The experience includes hands-on interactions with objects like</strong>percussion instruments, rattles, rings, weavings, as well as sensory and threading games. Children and their family are offered a sensory experience and an exploration of the different aspects of materials and their components—whether mineral, plant-based, or synthetic.</p>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Flora Koel</strong> graduated with a DNAT (National Diploma in Art and Technology) in Textiles from the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts de Lyon (2014) and earned a DNSEP (National Higher Diploma in Plastic Expression) in Object Design from the École Supérieure d’Art et Design de Saint-Étienne (2017). To create her pieces, she draws inspiration from plants and trees, and uses local materials, allowing her works to fit into place and space. “Returning to wild nature without rejecting technology is a concrete concern—it’s not about stepping back but about moving forward in a different direction to reinvent life and work,” she says, affirming her desire to work with nature and with local resources. “Collaborating with nature rather than automatically uprooting it,” Flora clarifies. Her immersion in nature has led her to rethink her role as a designer. Flora invites us to pay attention to the fragility of natural materials, their potential, and the ways she repurposes their uses.</p>.\r\n\r\n<p>Imagining an autonomous practice leads to a wilder, freer creation that breaks away from mass industry and establishes a responsible position for both the producer and the receiver.</p><strong class=\"echo\">.</strong>\r\n\r\n<p> </p>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Coordination:</strong> Véronique Kesseler<br />\r\n<strong>Mediation:</strong> Nadina Faljić and Laura Kieffer, with the support of freelance mediators.</p>\r\n",

"text": "Ideally located in the heart of the capital, the Casino Luxembourg - Forum d'art contemporain holds contemporary art exhibitions with an international programme of mainly younger-generation artists.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nThe art centre houses public spaces with a variety of uses and vocations, combining contemporary art with a warm and friendly meeting place: the ground floor, next to a library specialising in contemporary art, has a \"BlackBox\" projection room devoted to artists' videos; an area dedicated to learning activities, and a café-restaurant, the ca(fé)sino. The first floor is exclusively used for temporary exhibitions, so artists' monographs and themed exhibitions are shown here. These are completed by a varied programme of guided tours, conferences and encounters with contemporary music, as well as artists in residence.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nFar from any museological concerns, the Casino functions like an artistic and experimental think tank heading for the latest trends in the art scene.",

"text": "<p>Notes on Weathering marks the start of FORA, a special programme of exhibitions and events celebrating Casino Luxembourg’s thirtieth anniversary. The work in progress conceived by <strong>Bianca Bondi</strong><strong class=\"echo\">.</strong> (born in 1986 in Johannesburg, South Africa, lives and works in Paris) for the basement of the building will unfold over a whole year, following its subterranean, continuous, and silent temporality. These underground premises, which are normally not accessible to the public, are characterized by humidity, darkness and minerality. As an active milieu exposed to the vagaries of time, they are in thrall to processes of degradation, deposits, corrosion, and transformation. </p>\r\n\r\n<p>The term “weathering” refers to the discrete yet irreversible processes through which materials are transformed over time. In Bondi’s installation these phenomena are neither represented nor staged but rather welcomed as forces at work capable of gradually modifying matter, form, and the relationships between elements. The word “notes”, in turn, suggests a documentary, fragmentary and open-ended approach. Accordingly, Bondi’s project operates as a succession of observations, traces, and transitional states distributed across space and time. Each activation initiates processes that unravel over time, independently of Bondi’s presence, and spread beyond the initially occupied space. Propagation thus becomes the project’s modus operandi—a way for the spaces to influence each other, keep the traces of previous activations, and enter into a deferred dialogue with each other. </p>\r\n\r\n<p>The practice of Bianca Bondi resonates deeply with this kind of environment, as her works rely on materials that are sensitive to their surroundings. Activated by phenomena of reaction, alteration and propagation, Bondi’s works develop as open systems subject to the influences of their surroundings and to an extended temporality that escapes the logics of control, conservation, and immediate visibility. </p>\r\n\r\n<p> </p>.\r\n\r\n<p> </p>\r\n",

"text": "<p>In autumn and for Casino Luxembourg’s 30th anniversary, artists <strong>Christoph Meier </strong>and <strong>Ute Müller </strong>.are given carte blanche to interrogate the very concept of the Forum. A large-scale, walk-in installation will combine the functions of a stage, a laboratory, and a social sculpture; an amphitheater that challenges traditional spatial hierarchies and highlights collective action. Here, boundaries between the front- and backstage, the audience and the artists, and the center and the periphery are meant to blur.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>Spanning the entire first floor of the Casino Luxembourg, the exhibition is not confined behind closed doors; instead, the creative process itself becomes an integral part of the project. Fully adaptable and conducive to both spontaneous encounters and co-creation, it offers an artist-designed setting for experimentation, exchange, and collective engagement. It functions as a temporary laboratory where collective thinking, building, and action become visible.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>Throughout its duration, the project doesn’t follow a fixed script but evolves within shifting rhythms, developing a temporal narrative that keeps the space open, visible, and adaptable. Authorship may be shared among all participants.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>The result is a social sculpture in progress, where collective thought, construction, and engagement intertwine with performative, social, and transformative moments. This process fosters new forms of dialogue and collective, shared experiences that shall extend beyond the space itself.</p><strong class=\"echo\">.</strong>\r\n",

"text": "Ideally located in the heart of the capital, the Casino Luxembourg - Forum d'art contemporain holds contemporary art exhibitions with an international programme of mainly younger-generation artists.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nThe art centre houses public spaces with a variety of uses and vocations, combining contemporary art with a warm and friendly meeting place: the ground floor, next to a library specialising in contemporary art, has a \"BlackBox\" projection room devoted to artists' videos; an area dedicated to learning activities, and a café-restaurant, the ca(fé)sino. The first floor is exclusively used for temporary exhibitions, so artists' monographs and themed exhibitions are shown here. These are completed by a varied programme of guided tours, conferences and encounters with contemporary music, as well as artists in residence.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nFar from any museological concerns, the Casino functions like an artistic and experimental think tank heading for the latest trends in the art scene.",

"text": "<p><strong>VENUE: Casino Display, 1, rue de la Loge</strong></p>\r\n\r\n<p>As part of their residency titled WAYS TO, <strong>Zohra Mrad</strong> opened the Casino Display space to the public for a number of events, including concerts, performances, interactive installations, and a unique collective exhibition. Now, they invite you to a final opening to share their artistic research on the ways that help us survive, remember, and transcend the violence of the world we live in.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>For the opening of their exhibition WAYS TO/finalfinalsession4<strong class=\"echo\">.</strong>, Mrad presents What Holds, an exclusive interactive and immersive installation created in collaboration with interdisciplinary artist <strong>L-corde</strong> (who uses rope as their main medium). It also features various prints and glass experiments inspired by Léa Valet’s illustrations, as well as a new version of their generative installation, developed with pluridisciplinary and tattoo artist <strong>Jana Kaulmann</strong> during WAYS TO/session1. </p>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>About What Holds:</strong></p>\r\n\r\n<p>Some things hold us without ever asking to be seen.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>What Holds. is an interactive and immersive installation that makes some of these invisible networks visible, <a>felt and palpable</a>. "text": "Ideally located in the heart of the capital, the Casino Luxembourg - Forum d'art contemporain holds contemporary art exhibitions with an international programme of mainly younger-generation artists.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nThe art centre houses public spaces with a variety of uses and vocations, combining contemporary art with a warm and friendly meeting place: the ground floor, next to a library specialising in contemporary art, has a \"BlackBox\" projection room devoted to artists' videos; an area dedicated to learning activities, and a café-restaurant, the ca(fé)sino. The first floor is exclusively used for temporary exhibitions, so artists' monographs and themed exhibitions are shown here. These are completed by a varied programme of guided tours, conferences and encounters with contemporary music, as well as artists in residence.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nFar from any museological concerns, the Casino functions like an artistic and experimental think tank heading for the latest trends in the art scene.",

Shot on analogue film, the work unfolds through accumulation rather than rupture—a gradual, patient overheating through which anger becomes legible.</p>\r\n\r\n<p>A text in four parts documents encounters with racism at sixteen, twenty-one, twenty-six, and thirty-one. Each episode attends not to the incident itself but to its aftermath: the process by which the body registers what has not yet been consciously named. Smoke drifts through the frame and past its edges, resisting containment.</p>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Mehdi Zion</strong>'s practice engages analogue and non-chemical film processes, working with light, time, and the inherent properties of materials. "text": "<p>The prefix “post-” has been widely used throughout the twentieth century in terms such as post-impressionism, post-structuralism, post-modernism, post-colonialism, and others. The affix “post-” invites an analysis of what has been accomplished in the past to reflect on possible continuities or ruptures in what comes after. These reflections may take on a critical dimension—as in the case of post-colonialism—or, conversely, propose an evolution. Post-rock, for example, does not reject rock music; rather, it represents a transformation, a reinvention, and a re-reading of previously established codes. </p>.\r\n\r\n<p>In this light, the Post- project at Casino Luxembourg provides the opportunity to reflect afterwards on something that took place before at Casino Display, the research and residency space of Casino Luxembourg. This reflection unfolds around two main axes. On the one hand, the Post-Master, which addresses questions related to the presentation and transmission of artistic research; on the other, what we call Post-Residencies, which explore how works and emerging ideas produced within a residency context continue to live on and transform over time. </p>\r\n\r\n<p>Post- seeks both to take stock of what has been and to project what might be. It is always in the making, never totally achieved. It symbolizes an ongoing, ever-evolving journey into the future. <br />\r\n </p>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Post-Master </strong></p>\r\n\r\n<p>1.3 – 23.3.2026 </p>\r\n\r\n<p>27.5 – 15.6.2026 </p>\r\n\r\n<p>Artists: <strong>Matilde Gazeau Frade, Inès Hosni, Mona Young-eun Kim, jae Park, Seunghyun Park </strong><strong class=\"echo\">.</strong></p>\r\n\r\n<p>Post-Master questions the ways in which an evolving research process can be presented. In other words: how can we introduce ideas into a space while the research is not yet complete? The proposal is to explore narration both as a method for transmitting ongoing artistic research and as a tool for investigating the process itself. The two exhibition moments reveal two stages of the research, between the emergence of ideas and their metamorphosis throughout the process, inviting viewers to follow their unfolding. </p>\r\n\r\n<p>The European Post-Master is a collaborative program involving the Haute École des Arts du Rhin (HEAR – Strasbourg/Mulhouse, France), the École nationale supérieure des arts visuels de La Cambre (La Cambre –Brussels, Belgium), the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten (KABK – The Hague, Netherlands), and the École nationale supérieure d’art et de design de Nancy (ENSAD Nancy, France). <br />\r\n </p>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Post-Residencies </strong></p>\r\n\r\n<p>Artists: </p>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Sam Krack: 1.3 – 30.3.2026 </strong></p>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Phuong Thao Nguyen: 8.4 – 4.5.2026 </strong></p>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>ludovic hadjeras: 6.5 – 8.6.2026 </strong></p>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Nika Schmitt: 24.6 – 7.9.2026<br />\r\nWith guest artists and writer Christian Schwarz, Lorenz Pasch, Pegasus Product (Dargelos Kersten, Anton Peitersen, Gernot Seeliger), Anush Sarkisian </strong></p>\r\n\r\n<p>At Casino Luxembourg, former residents present works originally created in situ at Casino Display as part of their artist’s residence there. By recontextualizing these works within the exhibition spaces of Casino Luxembourg, the residents initiate a curatorial reflection on how works conceived within a specific creative environment—in this case, Casino Display, where the artists resided for several months—can be reimagined and presented within a new, different context. This approach offers an opportunity to explore the fluid boundaries between the two spaces and the curatorial implications that emerge from this transition. </p>\r\n\r\n<p>Conceived as an exercise in space, this phase unfolds as a dialogue between artist and curator, who reflect together on the transformation of works as they migrate from one context to another. It considers how a work produced within the intimacy and creative intensity of an artist residency may resonate differently elsewhere and examines the new meanings or tensions that may surface through this translation. The emphasis is placed at the same time on the genesis of the work and on its potential for renewal. </p>\r\n\r\n<p>To conclude the Post-Residencies, Nika Schmitt will once again shift the framework and blur temporalities by articulating a reflection in reverse, addressing the process of creation in anticipation of a forthcoming residency and creating a conversation between past works and those to come. </p>\r\n\r\n<p>Throughout the project, curators and artists work together while focusing on the critical dimensions of the exercise. By collaboratively producing a new document intended to accompany the work, they extend the notion of site-specific creation. <br />\r\n </p>\r\n\r\n<p><strong>périscope</strong> </p>\r\n\r\n<p>1.4 – 18.5.2026 </p>\r\n\r\n<p>Artists: <strong>Shade Sadiku Cumini, Léa Giordano, Rari Matei, Mehdi Zion </strong></p>\r\n\r\n<p>périscope is an installation of moving images placed behind a small, ground-level window of the Casino Display building, visible from Rue de la Loge. The works created during the first-year residencies in 2025— intended to activate the device—are now presented at Casino Luxembourg. The project specifically aims to question how works conceived in a highly specific format can be transposed, and to continue the dialogue and exchange in a different space. </p>\r\n\r\n<p>Artist Mehdi Zion will conceive a piece designed to be first shown at Casino Luxembourg before being recontextualized in Casino Display’s périscope installation, thereby inverting again the trajectory between creation and exhibition. </p>\r\n\r\n<p> </p>\r\n",

"text": "Ideally located in the heart of the capital, the Casino Luxembourg - Forum d'art contemporain holds contemporary art exhibitions with an international programme of mainly younger-generation artists.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nThe art centre houses public spaces with a variety of uses and vocations, combining contemporary art with a warm and friendly meeting place: the ground floor, next to a library specialising in contemporary art, has a \"BlackBox\" projection room devoted to artists' videos; an area dedicated to learning activities, and a café-restaurant, the ca(fé)sino. The first floor is exclusively used for temporary exhibitions, so artists' monographs and themed exhibitions are shown here. These are completed by a varied programme of guided tours, conferences and encounters with contemporary music, as well as artists in residence.<br />\r\n<br />\r\nFar from any museological concerns, the Casino functions like an artistic and experimental think tank heading for the latest trends in the art scene.",
