Women's Event: Where Do I Belong? (film & debate)
WOMEN'S EVENT - CINÉDEBATE "WHERE DO I BELONG?"
.
Screening of the film Fragments of Belonging followed by a debate
We invite you to the screening of Fragments of Belonging by Croatian filmmaker Tatjana Božić, followed by a debate attended by the director and an invited expert.
In this deeply personal and energetic film, Božić as the film’s main protagonist explores her lifelong search for a place where she feels she can belong. Having lived in Croatia, Bosnia, the Soviet Union, London and, ultimately, Amsterdam, she reflects on migration, identity and integration through her own experiences and those of friends and family who have also crossed borders.
The film raises questions that go beyond migration. What does it mean to belong? How much of ourselves are we expected to give up in order to fit into a society? And, are women judged differently when they do not conform to the cultural, social or gender expectations of the communities around them?
.During the debate following the screening, we will explore belonging as both a personal need and a social expectation, looking at migration and integration through a gender perspective. Together with Tatjana Božić and our invited expert, we will discuss identity, cultural expectations, stereotypes and the pressure placed on women to adapt, fit in and be accepted, while asking whether it is possible to belong without losing the freedom to remain oneself.
