Where the Light Goes Quiet, the new art exhibition at BIL
The exhibition brings together a selection of works that highlight the evolution of an artistic practice shaped by the pursuit of depth, texture and emotion. The title, Where the Light Goes Quiet, evokes Monique Becker’s unique universe, one in which black absorbs light rather than reflecting it, creating a space of silence, density and introspection.
.For the artist, black is never an absence. “Black is not absence but presence,” she says, expressing the essence of her work. Her canvases, built up through successive layers, combine fragility and strength, suggestion and restraint. They invite viewers to look closely, engaging in a sensory experience that unfolds gradually.
