WAYS TO / session 3
VENUE: Casino Display, 1, rue de la Loge
Casino Display invites you to an evening in two parts.
As part of their residency at Casino Display, Zohra Mrad presents a listening session dedicated to the work of Skander Ben Yahia, a sound artist whose practice explores the textures and atmospheres of dark ambient. This session continues research begun throughout the WAYS TO... cycle, during which Zohra Mrad invited several artists to engage with the subject.
The same evening, périscope welcomes the second iteration of La somme de mon seum by Mehdi Zion, previously presented as part of the exhibition Post—. at Casino Luxembourg. The work follows a kettle coming to the boil, rendering a simple image of anger. Working primarily with analogue film, Mehdi Zion is drawn to slow processes, to what material does on its own when given time. This iteration takes place behind the small window at the ground level of the Casino Display building, visible from the Rue de la Loge.
Biographies
.Mehdi Zion
Mehdi, 34, lives and works in Brussels. Born in France, he grew up in the countryside. He comes from a working-class background and is the grandson of Algerians who arrived in France in the 1960s.
His practice combines analog photography, 16mm film, and writing. He develops his images using plants (sage, mint, nettles) according to non-toxic formulas he experiments with collectively. This process fosters a slow, material relationship with the image—from shooting to chemical development—and embeds ritual within the technical gesture itself. He treats cultural heritage not as folklore, but as a tool for political work.
His work is built upon lived experiences, transmitted narratives, and acts of listening. He explores the gap between what is visible and what remains invisible: the violence that is internalized, the voices that inhabit us, the assignments that are reproduced.
