Wakan
The pianist Francesca Han, the double bassist Pierre Fenichel and the drummer Fred Pasqua bring together their singular musical worlds in WAKAN. Being Dantès is the first result of this collaboration: a program of original compositions that goes straight to the point, without ornament, to convey direct and powerful emotions. Clear, memorable melodies move within complex and distinctive structures, creating a journey that is both demanding and transparent, with many possible destinations. Inspired by Alexandre Dumas, the program follows the transformation of Edmond Dantès during his imprisonment in the Château d’If, leading to his rebirth as the Count of Monte Cristo. Conceived as a series of musical tableaux, the pieces revisit key moments of this inner journey: the tension of an active imagination trapped in a motionless world, the stretching of time, and the fragility of reason. In this confined space, silence and the smallest sounds gain new intensity ; the movement of the waves, the footsteps of the guards - shaping a true sound landscape that replaces the passing of days and nights, and opens a deeply existential dimension. In the culture of the Achuar people of the Amazon, and in other Native American traditions, WAKAN refers to a spiritual principle present in humans, plants and objects. It represents, in a mysterious way, both soul and energy.
