Réduction de la violence armée
When explosive devices are used in populated areas, 90% of the victims are civilians. This percentage has remained constant over the last ten years. On 18 November 2022, 82 States signed a historic Political Declaration in Dublin to end the human suffering caused by explosive weapons in populated areas. Handicap International carries out operations in 18 countries to reduce armed violence. It also participates in various local and international initiatives aimed at protecting civilians before, during and after conflicts. The reduction of armed violence is based on the recognition of inequality (including the unequal distribution of wealth) as the main root cause of conflict. Handicap International works on the link between these two issues, taking a stand not only for the reduction of armed violence, but also in the humanitarian, development and peacebuilding fields. A wide range of actions are essential to combat the damage caused by explosive devices: mine clearance, destruction of stockpiles of explosive devices, as well as assistance to victims and risk education. All these actions are implemented by numerous NGOs, including HI, in parallel with national and international political mobilisation.
