Political songs are not very well known in Luxembourg, but since the 19th century to this day, there have been numerous examples of writers and composers reacting to political and social issues in Luxembourg. In most cases, political songs are also highly critical songs with a moral message or a call for change.
.Political songs can generally be categorized according to their intended functions, such as battle and freedom songs, protest songs, workers' songs, agitation songs, war and peace songs, and so on. To date, there is no songbook of political songs from Luxembourg. That is why Georgely 2 wants to draw attention to this genre, so that the courageous voices from literature and music are not forgotten.
This new songbook from the National Library comprises 300 political songs from Luxembourg’s history and politics.
