Art, Neuroscience and AI: Discovering Invisible Worlds

.Even before they are named or represented, forms are perceived, interpreted and organised by our brains. They shape the way we understand the world, whether they appear in nature, mathematics, art or digital technologies.
What you see may not be exactly what your brain perceives. For one evening, this event invites audiences to question the way they look at the world and to discover how visible and invisible forms shape our understanding of reality.
In resonance with the exhibition SHAPES – Beyond Geometry, Cercle Cité, in partnership with the University of Luxembourg and with the support of the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR), invites the public to a conversation with photographer and artist Marina Gadonneix and Victor Rambaud, researcher in artificial intelligence and cognitive science, whose collaborative work is presented in the exhibition, in dialogue with Paul Guhennec, postdoctoral researcher at the University of Zurich. The discussion will be introduced by Anouk Wies, co-curator of the exhibition.
At the intersection of art, science and emerging technologies, this conversation explores the connections between mathematical forms, images, the brain and artificial intelligence: how do the representations that allow us to interpret reality come into being?
Through her photographic work, Marina Gadonneix reveals places and objects where knowledge takes shape. She has notably photographed the mathematical models of the Institut Henri Poincaré, a historic collection that once inspired the artist Man Ray. Through her lens, these scientific objects become enigmatic landscapes, situated at the boundary between art, science and imagination.
Victor Rambaud, meanwhile, investigates the relationships between geometry, the brain and artificial intelligence. His research focuses on how biological and artificial systems construct representations of space, examining mathematical structures that can be found both in the functioning of the brain and in artificial neural networks.
An evening to spark curiosity, transform the way we look at the world, and explore what connects a work of art, a mathematical formula and artificial intelligence.
