Endless Cookie (LUXFILMFEST)
Across a series of animated vignettes drawn from recorded conversations, Endless Cookie follows the lives of two half-brothers, one Indigenous, one white, from the urban chaos of 1980s Toronto to the remote Shamattawa First Nations reserve in northern Manitoba. The film’s nine-year production process becomes part of the story in its own right: real-time interruptions from Pete’s kids, dogs, and unexpected guests—and freewheeling adventures involving chickens and bear traps—are set alongside more somber episodes that invoke reflections on family, identity, and the ongoing legacies of colonization. This off-kilter documentary channels the irreverent wit of Adult Swim, blending oddball comedy with observational storytelling rendered in psychedelic animation. Seth and Pete lead their viewers on an absurd, often hilarious journey that never loses sight of the sociopolitical forces that shaped each brother’s upbringing...
