It is the late 1980s. A news crew arrives on the outskirts of Medellín, Colombia, to investigate reports of strange lights spotted in the sky by locals. The television camera is soon stolen by a group of four reckless teenagers who turn the lens on their own volatile exploits. After a robbery goes awry, the four escape into the depths of Medellín, documenting crime and street violence from the fringes of society. A provocative portrait of youth on the margins, Barrio Triste channels the raw, frantic energy of Harmony Korine while revealing the boys’ internal despair.
