UNESCO Promenade - Free guided tour
To mark the special discovery day organised by the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC) on 8 September, the Luxembourg City Tourist Office and the Lëtzebuerg City Museum invite you to discover the city’s cultural heritage and learn more about the work of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.
Explore the impressive remains of the former fortifications, which, together with Luxembourg’s Old Town, were added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1994.
After the meeting point at Place Guillaume II, the route takes you to the “Gëlle Fra” monument and leads through Pétrusse Park, continuing halfway up the fortifications to the Corniche (“Europe’s most beautiful balcony”), across the ramparts and finally into the Old Town. The tour also includes a visit to the archaeological crypt beneath the Holy Ghost Citadel. After this approximately two-hour guided tour of the city, you will arrive at the Lëtzebuerg City Museum, where you will have the opportunity to visit the UNESCO Visitor Centre accompanied by a member of the museum staff.
Both the guided city tour and the visit to the UNESCO Visitor Centre are free of charge.
