Description

At the intersection of key societal and environmental developments, the “Sustainable and Engaged Future” workshops aim to bring science and the public closer together.

Inspired by the model of “science cafés,” we invite participants to engage in open dialogue with experts, ask questions, and share their opinions through six interactive public discussions. Each workshop is designed as an inclusive space where diverse perspectives are welcomed and appreciated.

Our goal is to strengthen the connection between society and the University of Luxembourg by fostering direct interaction, openness, transparency, and public engagement. Join us on this exciting journey to bring science closer to the community and to work together toward a sustainable and engaged future.

Our fifth workshop is an enriching public discussion with Dr. Nicklas Riekötter from the Department of Geography and Spatial Planning at the University of Luxembourg, focusing on the multifaceted potential of fruit trees to enhance food security, mitigate climate change, and transform both urban and rural landscapes.

This workshop will explore both scientific and practical aspects of integrating fruit trees into various environments. We will look at species selection, care techniques, and the ecological benefits of fruit trees. Participants will gain insights into the role of fruit trees in carbon sequestration, biodiversity enhancement, and the development of resilient local food systems.

.

Our interactive exchange will also include innovative approaches to incorporating fruit trees into urban planning and landscape design, with a special focus on applications relevant to Luxembourg’s unique urban and rural contexts.

.

Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with experts, share your ideas, and be inspired by the transformative power of fruit trees. Let’s work together to cultivate a sustainable future—where our landscapes are greener, our food systems more resilient, and our communities thriving.
