Unstable grounds – On intermediality

For better or for worse, classification is often considered necessary to understand and contextualise artistic, curatorial, and research practices. It certainly helps structure projects and secure funding. But when boundaries are blurred, artists, curators, and researchers may face challenges within traditional taxonomies of art and creative expression — in other words, it is a double-edged sword. 

This discussion is not an attempt at rigid categorisation. On the contrary, it aims to open a conversation about the potential inherent in crossing boundaries and engaging with methods or discourses that strict disciplinary constraints would otherwise preclude. 

Each guest speaker will give a short 10–15 minute pitch. Afterwards there will be an intermission, followed by an open discussion on the subject.

Biographies 

Trained as an art historian, Ada Ackerman is a research fellow at the CNRS (THALIM, Paris). She also worked as a curator for exhibitions such as Golem ! Avatars d'une légende d'argile (Musée d'art et d'histoire du Judaïsme, Paris, 2017) ; L'Oeil extatique. Eisenstein, cinéaste à la croisée des arts (Centre Pompidou-Metz, 2019 ); Mirabil-IA (Centre des Arts, Enghien-les-Bains, 2024) and Le Monde selon l'IA. (Jeu de Paume, 2025). 
 

Zohra Mrad is a multidisciplinary Tunisian-Luxembourgish artist and designer based in Luxembourg. They create immersive, interactive, and generative experiences. Their work fosters a dialogue between human experience and technology, encouraging audiences to shift from passive observers to active participants and co-creators. Their approach is collaborative, circular, and inclusive. Mrad’s practice draws inspiration from — and is sometimes closely tied to — kinesthesia, healing, chaos, and the experimental and/or extreme music scene. They explore how experiences can help us survive/live in the world around us. Mrad is a co-founder of the VIVID ECHOES artist residencies in Luxembourg, the magazine foehn, and the collectives Sirr al-’Asrâr, Zolei, and B-Saad. They are also an active member of Mooja and Grave Erreur. 
 

Born in 1992 in Luxembourg, Nika Schmitt constructs electromechanical installations and kinetic objects that engage feedback, material transformation, and systemic instability. With a background in Fine Arts (Maastricht) and ArtScience (The Hague), her recent work translates fundamental physical processes into mechanical and electric choreography, articulated through movement, light and sound. Residencies in Dakar (sonic explorers), New York (ISCP), Montevideo, and Rostock (Territorio Especifico) inform a practice attuned to environment and energy. She has exhibited at venues including IKOB (Eupen), Philharmonie Luxembourg, Künstlerhaus Bethanien (Berlin), and Field Projects (New York). In 2025, Nika Schmitt holds the title of City Sound Artist of Bonn, culminating in her public sound installation Stille Laute displayed at the station Universität/Markt during the Beethovenfest in Bonn. 
 

Korean artist Mona Young-eun Kim, based in Paris, explores the transformation of language, public space, and anthropology in response to a changing future. Creating immersive installations with sculptures often using light, translucent materials and digital elements. She has exhibited at Frac Île-de-France, Pont du Gard, and Casino Luxembourg, and participated in residencies at Cité internationale des arts, Gaîté Lyrique, Le 104 Paris, and La Centrale Montréal. She is part of the first cohort of artists in the European Post-Master programme at Casino Display.
