Jazz Up the Movies
Manu Pékar, a guitarist based in Paris and passionate cinephile, offers an original reinterpretation of major themes from film soundtracks. Drawing from his experience as a composer and arranger for his personal projects as well as for artists like Gary Burton, Branford Marsalis, John Scofield, and exhibitions of paintings, he proposes to illustrate these pieces alternately with the swing of jazz, ambient, progressive rock, or even free improvisation. "Cinema has always been able to produce striking soundtracks, whether specially composed for the film - think Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus, Henri Mancini, or Miles Davis - or comprised of borrowed elements - such as Easy Rider or more recently Quentin Tarantino - and Jazz has drawn from this immense source to enrich its repertoire with well-known and melodious pieces."
