The Carmen Case

FR La metteuse en scène Alexandra Lacroix, marraine du TalentLAB 2021, revient au Grand Théâtre avec The Carmen Case, un opéra qui ouvre une perspective nouvelle sur le chef-d’œuvre incontournable du répertoire français qu’est Carmen de Bizet. Un féminicide a eu lieu, les faits ont été avoués par l’ex-compagnon Don José. La situation est inscrite dans une salle de tribunal lors d’une procédure de jugement criminel en cour d’assises. Un procès comme il s’en rejoue trop souvent aujourd’hui. Placé.e.s à la place des jurés, les spectateurs.rices vibrent au rythme des réminiscences de l’œuvre originale aussi bien que des rebondissements du procès, disséquant toutes les étapes ayant menées au meurtre de Carmen. Un opéra innovant, où les airs de Bizet et les nouvelles compositions de Diana Soh, interprétées par United Instruments of Lucilin, sous la direction de Lucy Leguay, communiquent à travers l’espace et le temps.

EN In France, one woman is killed by her partner or former partner every three days. That was the starting point for French director Alexandra Lacroix and her new production based on Bizet’s Carmen. Departing from the original structure, she uses a trial to explore fully the murder of Carmen and Don José’s motives. Composer Diana Soh has written  a new score to add to Bizet’s beautiful music, which otherwise remains intact as parts  of the original opera are also performed by way of evidence before the court. With this update on the 150-year-old Carmen, Lacroix casts the audience as jurors who must make their own minds up about what they see. Long-term partners United Instruments of Lucilin, conducted by Lucie Leguay, are the ensemble for this new production.

The Carmen Case ist ein Spektakel hinter verschlossenen Türen, in dem Staatsanwalt, Opfer, Angeklagter, Verteidigung und Zeugen Fakten darlegen, auf Anschuldigungen reagieren und Verleumdungen widersprechen. Den Aussagen eines Publikums, das Georges Bizet seit fast 150 Jahren beklatscht, wird genauso viel Aufmerksamkeit geschenkt wie der Partitur. Ausgehend von Bizets Klassiker möchten Regisseurin Alexandra Lacroix und Komponistin Diana Soh die Alternativen eines Schicksals aufdecken, das weder gestern noch heute hätte schicksalhaft sein müssen. Musikalisch werden sie von United Instruments of Lucilin unter der Leitung von Lucy Leguay unterstützt.
