Nederlands Dans Theater: NDT 1

EN Figures in Extinction is the third and last work in the triptych of collaborations between NDT-associate choreographer Crystal Pite and award-winning Complicité theatre director Simon McBurney (last seen at the Théâtres de la Ville in 2023 with Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead). Part one, which won the 2022 Dutch Dance Award for most impressive dance production, tackled the climate crisis and the extinction of hundreds of species. Part two projected a picture of humans alienated from themselves. In the third and final part, Pite and McBurney continue to explore the self-mixed, toxic cocktail that is the age we live in, where we are both perpetrators and victims. McBurney’s theatrical clarity combined with Pite’s crisp movement language creates an empathic, breathtaking work of contemplation, where anxieties and aspirations surface, providing a glimmer in the gloom as to where we are potentially heading.

FR Le Nederlands Dans Theater (Bedtime Story / Cluster / The Big Crying, 22·23), invité régulier des Théâtres de la Ville, a entamé une collaboration sur plusieurs années avec Complicité, la compagnie de théâtre de Simon McBurney, autre régulier du Grand Théâtre (Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead, 22·23). La chorégraphe associée du NDT, Crystal Pite et le metteur en scène Simon McBurney ont échangé sur leurs craintes et leurs espoirs prudents concernant notre époque et sur la façon dont les artistes peuvent créer de manière significative face à la destruction massive. Une pièce qui parle d'espoir dans notre époque marquée par l'urgence climatique. Cette nouvelle création, troisième volet d’une trilogie majeure, promet d’être un spectacle virtuose et lumineux. 

DE Die vielfach preisgekrönten Crystal Pite, Choreografin und Tänzerin, und Simon McBurney, Regisseur und Schauspieler, haben sich über ihre Zukunftsängste und -hoffnungen ausgetauscht. Daraus sind in Zusammenarbeit mit McBurneys Theaterkompanie Complicité drei Stücke für das Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT 1) entstanden. Die ersten beiden Teile der Trilogie befassten sich mit der Klimakrise, Massensterben und einer von sich selbst entfremdeten Menschheit. Im Grand Théâtre ist nun der dritte zu sehen. Darin erschaffen McBurneys klare Regiekunst und Pites präzise choreografische Sprache ein einfühlsames, atemberaubendes Werk, das ein Schlaglicht auf eine dunkel erscheinende Zukunft wirft, ohne auf einen Hoffnungsschimmer zu verzichten.
