Designing a Cooperative
Time to Access is an Amsterdam-based platform devoted to the development of radical architecture. It creates participative forms of housing, spatial design and social environments. Its aim is to make affordable housing accessible for all. As architects and process managers, they support groups and communities to imagine and build their future houses through a range of co-design and co-production activities. All their projects follow the principles of commoning, accessibility, sustainability and circularity.
In 2019, Mira Nekova and Andrea Verdecchia founded Time to Access following their involvement with the housing cooperative de Nieuwe Meent in Amsterdam, their first project. Thanks to de Nieuwe Meent, where they are both co-founders and architects, they could put into practice their ideas of accessible, inclusive, and sustainable housing and carve a new path that is respectful of their ideals and ethics.
De Nieuwe Meent was the second pilot of Amsterdam for housing cooperatives. Meanwhile, over the last 5 years, around 10 other cooperatives were started and currently are in development. Time to Access is designing the biggest housing cooperative in Amsterdam : the De Bundel project, situated in New West, an area with an intense gentrification process and a high percentage of social housing for people from Turkish and Moroccan backgrounds. De Bundel is organised by the people raised in the neighbourhood and will give homes to people from the same area.
.Based on these experiences, they built a methodology and approach specifically oriented to designing housing cooperatives together with their clients.
