Description

Same Same but Different marks Leo Luccioni’s first solo exhibition at Valerius Gallery, where the Corsican artist (*1994) presents a series of ceramic works inspired by candy. The artist magnifies icons of temptation from the food industry, focusing on candy, with sugar being the first addictive substance, a disguised drug of childhood. These sweets transform into a poetic alphabet of forms and words, revealing the seductive language of consumption, while tapping into childhood nostalgia. Using a soft pastel color-palette, the artist delves into the aesthetics of cuteness, a growing trend in contemporary art. However, this "cuteness" aesthetic serves as a hidden warning, almost like a wolf in sheep's clothing.

.

The exhibition title, Same Same but Different, reflects a world where things appear alike but never quite are, questioning authenticity and imitation. Luccioni explores the theme of repetition, where the more an object is reproduced, the more real and legitimate it seems. Yet, in this mass-produced landscape, these objects also reveal their disposability. The endless repetition and availability of these products create the illusion of permanence—a world where everything appears endlessly accessible. Yet these objects resist emotional connection; their very existence is rooted in impermanence, ensuring we remain caught in a cycle of constant consumption.
