Description

OVERVIEW

The Rainbow Center is proud to present Motions of Silence, a compelling solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Sam Hrawy. This exhibition is an invitation to engage with silence, not as a sign of emptiness or hollowness, but as a powerful space of meaning and resistance.

Articulated around such media as performance, sculpture, sound, video, and photography, Motions of Silence explores the unspoken narratives that live within us, between borders, and beneath the surface of language. Hrawy’s work challenges conventional ideas of silence as absence, instead positioning it as a visual, sculptural, performative, and deeply political presence.

HIGHLIGHTS

Re-member: A series of photo-collages capturing fragmented bodies in processes of (re)construction, dealing with memory, trauma, and queer embodiment.

.

Ala Alkahwa (Over Coffee): Sculptures born from conversations over coffee—intimate, hybrid forms that speak to cultural displacement and non-binary identities.

Lettre au plâtre: A sculptural act of introspection, where plaster molded to skin becomes a tactile archive of presence—part scar, part prophecy.

Expansion: A haunting sound piece composed of collected breaths from around the globe—portraying shared endurance, connection, and resistance through the body’s most basic rhythm.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Sam Hrawy is a visual and conceptual artist, currently residing in France. A native of Lebanon, his multidisciplinary practice is grounded in lived experience and communal exchanges—often constructed around individuals who have been pushed to the margins of society. His work is shaped by a sense of transience—of movement across places, identities, and emotional geographies. Hrawy’s work explores queerness, cultural memory, and the sensory dimensions of silence. Motions of Silence marks his first solo exhibition in Luxembourg and offers a poignant reflection on fragmentation, presence, and the politics of the unspoken.
