Description

Storytelling and stand-up are close cousins, but they can be very different in how they speak to the unspeakable.

In this workshop, we’ll be exploring how the particular strong points of personal storytelling—structure, vulnerability, connection with the audience—can enhance your performance skills, and enable you to share stories about taboo topics from a space of safety, empowerment, and yes, humor.

This workshop gives participants room to find and develop their authentic stories on various taboo themes of their choosing.

In the process, we will explore such subjects as:

  • Structure and pacing
  • Interpersonal dynamics of teller and listeners
  • The power of details
  • The responsibility of experience
  • Vulnerability as storytelling praxis

By the end of the workshop, participants will have at least one five-minute story ready.

This workshop is open to feminists of any gender.

About the instructor:

Cameryn Moore is a playwright/performer, storyteller, producer, and host, originally from the US and now based in Berlin. She has made seven critically acclaimed solo shows, including Phone Whore, nerdfucker, and most recently Muse. Since 2010, her work has been seen in over 75 cities worldwide. In addition to her theater projects, Cameryn is the creator of Smut Slam (an international network of adult storytelling events). She loves to work with challenging themes around sex, relationship, and bodies. As a former phone sex operator, Cameryn combines a comforting matter-of-factness with lightning-fast reflexes, "a Yankee accent that could strip paint” (a real quote from an otherwise awesome review), and a mind so open that you could run two Pride parades in it side by side.
