Ever wanted to develop your storytelling, public speaking and confidence skills? Well, trying stand-up is a fun and surprisingly effective way to build these skills while exploring a creative and rewarding art form. This 4-week beginner course is designed for complete newcomers, whether you’re a shy professional looking to feel more confident speaking up, or a confident communicator curious to try stand-up for the first time. Across four interactive sessions, you’ll learn the fundamentals of joke writing, performance techniques, and improvisation in a supportive, low-pressure environment. In addition, you’ll strengthen valuable personal and professional skills such as finding your voice, thinking on your feet, and connecting with an audience. You don’t need to be “naturally funny” or arrive with hilarious stories, Dan will guide you in uncovering the unique, unexpected details in your own experiences and help you shape them into material that works on stage. Under the coaching of seasoned comedian and coach Dan Belkin, you’ll have the opportunity to develop a short stand-up set and, if you choose, perform it at a relaxed class showcase for a friendly audience. Participation in the showcase is completely optional, and everyone is encouraged to take part at their own pace.
.Whether your goal is to overcome stage fright, improve workplace presentations, or simply try something new and creative, this course provides practical tools, expert guidance, and a welcoming space to take your first steps into stand-up. Each session builds on the last, combining instruction, hands-on exercises, and opportunities to test ideas within the group, culminating in a celebratory class showcase*.
*Showcase participation is 100% optional and pressure-free.
