The epitome of a modern artist, Jana Bahrich does most things herself, no matter how painstaking – writing, producing, directing. This has helped give her band Francis of Delirium a unique identity, with her rock confessionals breathing new life into the genre and her paintings creating a striking design aesthetic.
Released after she finished high school, 2020’s single 'Quit Fucking Around’ was a great introduction and remains one of her most enduring songs. Three EPs – All Change (2020), Wading. (2021), The Funhouse (2022) – and a striking debut album – Lighthouse (2024) – on and Jana has Francis of Delirium flying. While the EPs fizzed with promise, Lighthouse. landed its punches. Seeking a more vulnerable and open sonic palette, she wove in pop elements to create anthems that celebrated heartbreak and love.
Francis of Delirium’s new album, Run, Run Pure Beauty, serves as an excavation of hope in bleak times. Produced by Jana and longtime collaborator Chris Hewett, and mixed by Nicolas Vernhes (Deerhunter, Wild Nothing), its eleven songs of discovery, despair and perseverance ultimately serve as a mirror on its creator and is a brilliant next installment in the Francis of Delirium arc.
Arriving on the scene in early 2022, Lina Brockhoff, known simply as BROCKHOFF, quickly established herself as one of indie rock’s most beloved newcomers. Her debut EP, Sharks, featuring the anti-party anthem of the same name, introduced her as a songwriter who can fuse introspective storytelling with roaring guitar rock without compromise. Her long-awaited debut album, Easy Peeler, is the ambitious culmination of BROCKHOFF’s musical coming-of-age journey, one she has shared openly with her audience over the past few years.
One thing humans and clementines – those odd little fruits that can’t decide whether they want to be tangerines or oranges – have in common: you never know what you’ll get. Will their hard shell block you out? Will you have to peel them piece by piece to get closer to their core? Or will they turn out to be an easy peeler, one that opens immediately, lets you in, and doesn’t hide what’s inside? On Easy Peeler, BROCKHOFF proves herself to be the latter.
