A new look at an old medium.
In this workshop, we take a step back in time to rediscover the world of magnetic music. Magnetic tapes will become our tactile canvases for music. We will capture intriguing sounds from our surroundings using tape machines, edit and piece the tapes together, and craft our personalised tape loops using an array of tools, such as rhythmic soundscapes, electronic experimental sounds or spoken word elements, the possibilities are boundless.
Moreover, we will delve into the revolutionary work of Delia Derbyshire during her tenure at the BBC, which predates the cassette and Walkman era that later became synonymous with youth culture. Additionally, we'll explore the world of the actual magnetic data inscribed on the tapes.
