Painting in Luxembourg in the 18th century. A history worth discovering

Shedding light on Luxembourgish painters of the 18th century, this exhibition presents a wealth of archival material and a selection of some thirty works.

The show both illustrates the way painters lived in the Duchy of Luxembourg under the Ancien Régime and, thanks to engravings of the period, presents iconic paintings by a number of great masters from the area. Organised with the support of the Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart, this exhibition is the result of six years of research by Henri Carême as part of his doctoral thesis in art history. Completed in January 2023 at the UCLouvain, the thesis will also be published as an exhibition catalogue.
