2024 Korean Culture Day: A Journey Through Tradition and Modernity

.

The Korean Cultural House in Luxembourg (‘Maison de la Culture Coréenne au Luxembourg’) proudly presents Korean Culture Day on 12th October. This annual event offers Luxembourg residents a unique opportunity to experience Korean culture through a rich variety of performances, food, workshops, and interactive exhibits. This year’s event focuses on promoting cultural exchange and highlights how Korea’s past, present, and future coexist in harmony, providing an immersive experience for all attendees.

The cultural significance of this event lies in its ability to deepen visitors’ understanding of Korea, showing how the country’s cultural heritage and present-day innovations continue to thrive. Hyunjeong Park, a “gayageum" artist based in Busan and Berlin, will present an innovative performance that merges traditional Korean music with modern elements, creating a new genre called ‘Korean Neo Classic.’ Melissa Minseong Seo, a Berlin-based traditional dance artist, will bring a modern reinterpretation of Korean traditional dance, combining tradition and innovation. Their performances will showcase how Korea’s cultural legacy continues to evolve and remain relevant today.

In the evening, Marco Godinho, the artist who represented Luxembourg at the 58th Venice Biennale, will present his film “The Voice of Space (Seoul and Surroundings)”. This video art piece will take the audience on a journey into the relationships they cultivate with the spaces they inhabit. This film is a poetic but yet equally social reflection on the vast megacity, Seoul, and its surroundings filled with the incredible diversity that fascinated the artist.

The event will also feature K-pop dance performances and various traditional craft workshops, making it a family-friendly celebration that everyone can enjoy. Korean Culture Day offers all visitors the chance to explore and appreciate the harmony of Korea’s past, present and future, creating a truly unforgettable experience.
