L’ enfant-soldat née musique

In the streets of an African megalopolis, mopeds, cars, carts, motorbikes and the cries of merchants and animals create a permanent symphony. SOLEDAD, a young woman in her early twenties, lives in this acoustic chaos. She was forcibly conscripted as a child and fled the war. By day, she transforms the sounds of the city into celestial songs, and by night into the dark melodies of the sounds of war. Soledad has exceptional hearing. It is said that she sang in her mother's womb. She no longer remembers her mother. The war has taken away her memory. She can't remember how long the street has been her home, the fishmonger her aunt, the café owner her uncle. Summoned by her singing, memories flood back like shards of images from her battered childhood: life in the village with her mother, the sounds and smells of the city, an old man playing strange instruments. Then a black hole. Explosions, houses on fire, children screaming, haggard faces, child soldiers firing into the crowd, dead bodies. Turning the sounds of the city into music, Soledad tells her terrible story of being a child soldier. From this existence was born the Musical Child.
