During the 15th anniversary edition of CinEast, the Central and Eastern European Film Festival in Luxembourg, audiences will enjoy a broad selection of some of the best recent films produced in more than 20 countries of the former Eastern Bloc. In addition to over 100 screenings in cinemas, CinEast will also make an exciting selection of films available online.
Between 6 and 23 October, more than 55 feature films and 40 short films of all genres will be screened in Luxembourg at the Cinémathèque, Neimënster, Ciné Utopia, Kinepolis Kirchberg, Ancien Cinema (Vianden), Ciné Starlight (Dudelange) and other venues in and around the city.
This year the festival puts the Focus on the Czech Republic with an extensive selection of Czech films, numerous guests and several concerts. In addition, the organisers have prepared a Special Ukrainian Programme with a dozen screenings, an evening of Ukrainian short films followed by a discussion, several guests and two gigs with Ukrainian bands. The Festival organisers will also collect money to purchase an equipped ambulance to be sent to Ukraine in the framework of the charity project ‘CinEast4Ukraine’.
The festival’s thematic cycle ‘Communities’ will include many films and an extensive photo exhibition (Neimënster) focused mainly on communities facing crisis, and communities being forced to reinvent themselves. As every year, various musical events are planned to complement the festival programme. They include the Opening event with the energetic Czech electro-pop group MYDY (7/10, Melusina), a concert of the legendary musician Goran Bregović and his Wedding & Funeral Band(17/10, Rockhal), two cinéconcerts arranged by the Czech musician Tomáš Vtípil (12/10, Cinématheque) and the trio Neuvěřitelno (23/10, Neimënster), and live performances by the Ukrainian bands DZ’OB (19/10, Neimënster) and Joryj Kloc (Closing event, 20/10, Rotondes).
CinEast 2022 will welcome over 30 guests (directors, actors, producers…) who will meet audiences in cinemas during Q&A sessions after selected screenings, and take part in several ciné-debates.
