Boogie,

A curatorial experimentation

« Long story made short: When thinking about a title for this curatorial experimentation, we went down a rabbit hole around the word “boogie” – from its initial reference to a musical genre to the title of one of Mondrian’s last works, to an ending song of Dragon Ball Super, to a late 19th-century word for a ball of mucus in the nose, to an Argentinian cartoon character used to spoof extremisms, to a 1997 film by Paul Thomas Anderson, to its occurrence in the title of a body of work by artist Alexis Blake, and more to come ...

Depending on the perspective, Boogie, is alive, complex, and ever-changing. Some perspectives may be more pleasant than others. Yet it is about acknowledging all the various facets, following the groove, and embracing the complexity, resonances, and dissonances. But Boogie, is anything but passive. Boogie, thrives all the better as long as it is actively engaged with. As much as the pronunciation of the title shapes circles in one’s mouth, the project itself is all about smooth rhythms, flows, and shapes.

Our exploration of Boogie, has sparked a new perspective on curatorial experimentation. We see it as a method to infuse our work with unique energy, vibrancy, spontaneity,  and fun. Our journey with Boogie, shall not be solitary but shared through various experiences unfolding from encounters. As such, we aim to engage in dynamic dialogues, weaving together the voices of artists, the critical reflections of artworks, the narrative of publications, and a multiplicity of other gestures while occupying Casino’s ground-floor gallery spaces. »
